Unexpected turn in the NHL

2025.04.09

After Aleksandr Ovechkin from Russia broke Wayne Gretzky's long-standing goal record, a record that many thought would never be touched, another crazy moment went down in the NHL.

During a game between the Dallas Stars and Vancouver Canucks, the Canucks, who were desperately trying to make it into the playoffs, found themselves trailing 2-4 with just a few minutes left on the clock. In a last-ditch effort to get back into the game, they pulled their goalie to add an extra attacker. But, as often happens in these situations, they ended up conceding another goal, bringing the score to 2-5 with just 1 minute remaining. That's when things took a wild turn:

Hockey is such a fast and unpredictable game where pretty much anything can happen, but here's something that's never been seen in the NHL before: a team coming back from a three-goal deficit while pulling their goalie. That's exactly what went down in this game. And to top it off, the Canucks managed to win in overtime, so despite all the drama, the Stars only walked away with 1 point from the game.

Now, even though Dallas didn't get the full 2 points, they're still looking good for the playoffs, so that's a win for them. Vancouver, on the other hand, is in a tough spot. They've got just 4 games left in the regular season and are sitting 6 points behind the last playoff spot. So while the Canucks' comeback was impressive, their chances of making it to the postseason are looking pretty slim unless they can turn things around quickly.
